Sacramento pest control

We are California's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical Sacramento raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most Sacramento pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
  • If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
  • Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
  • When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation

Sacramento Raccoon Control Tip: What attracts raccoons?
Raccoons are cute, intelligent, adorable, cunning, and also the last living thing you should have on your property. It can become a really difficult issue if raccoons develop a habit of visiting your property regularly.

Basic things attract raccoons to your property. They are water, food, and shelter. The primary source of attraction for raccoons is food. In the wild, raccoons tend to live in territories that are close to water bodies so that they can have access to nutritious delicacies like frogs, crayfish, fishes, clams, and other seafood. They are omnivorous, though, and will feed on anything, even dead animals. Raccoons can survive on any kind of food they find, even if it is the only source of food available. So they could survive on your farm produce or leftover pet food, just about any form of food they can find on your property.

Now perhaps you have been trying to get rid of raccoons, and they keep coming back to your home, or you live in an area where raccoons are located, and you obviously want to protect your property from these critters. One thing you should know is the things that will bring them back to your property or the things that will attract them to your home.

Things that attract raccoons to your home
  • Are your waste bins tightly covered? Raccoons are knowledgeable enough to know that humans throw all the unwanted stuff (food included) into the waste bin, and they go there to scavenge for food, making your property dirty, causing discomforting noises, and spreading germs.
  • Leaving leftovers about your premises attracts all sorts of pests, including raccoons. Having water sources left open or faulty can attract raccoons to your house.
  • Having poultry or fish pond can also attract raccoons since they are omnivorous animals.
  • Having a garden can also attract raccoons because raccoons also feed on fruits and vegetables.
  • Raccoons love water and will want to drink and cool down in any source of water. They will defecate in your pool, causing illness when ingested.
  • Raccoons can gain access to your house if you have a pet door installed in your house.
  • Lack of light generally attracts pests. And raccoons are not left out.
  • Having hidden corners, nooks, and crannies where raccoons can nest and hide is another thing that attracts raccoons to your property. Raccoons like attics and chimneys because it is dark and hidden.
Knowing these, the actions you should take to prevent raccoons from accessing your property is pretty obvious. You can prevent raccoons from entering your house by:

  • Secure your garbage cans by covering them with lids that have strong latches, or you can get animal-proof storage systems.
  • Safely dispose of food, including pet foods, to avoid an infestation.
  • As stated before, raccoons love water, so if you have any body of water on your property like a pool, for example, ensure to install humane traps to get rid of the raccoons and install deterrents on the steps of your pool to prevent raccoons from gaining access to it.
  • Since darkness attracts pests, make sure every part of your home is brightly lit because it secures your house from pests and even thieves.
  • Raccoons like hidden places for hiding and nesting, mesh nettings can be fixed on the openings of chimneys to prevent raccoons from gaining access into them.
  • You can lock your pet doors when going out or when the pet doors are not in use. That way, raccoons will not be able to come into your house.
  • Always keep your compound clean; raccoons get attracted to dirty areas and areas with places they can hide in. Keep your lawn mowed at all times, remove bushes and shrubs too.
  • You can scare the raccoons away too. You can do that with motion-detecting sprinklers or strobe lights. Try many other ways of scaring them so they won't get accustomed to one method only.
  • Fence your garden or fish pond. It is better to use an electric fence since raccoons are good climbers. Place the electric wires 6 and 12 inches off the ground and turn them on at night or when no one is at home.
  • Since raccoons have a strong sense of smell, you can keep them off your property by using natural repellents like cayenne pepper and liquid repellent.
